Gaza Strip: strike against Hamas

Activists of radical party Fatah have held one-day strike in Gaza Strip. Thus they wish to make the protest against Hamas’ occupation.
Strike has led to closing of several schools and shops, however, public transport, markets and the majority of shops are continuing to work. Hamas representatives have named the strike illegal and have declared that it has failed.
It is worth of mentioning that, in June, 2007, Palestinian Autonomy was actually divided into two contradictory parties. In result of the armed struggle Hamas has established the full control over the Gaza Strip, and Palestinian National Administration President Mahmoud Abbas has formed new government (into which Islamites do not enter) on the Western bank of the river Jordan.
Meanwhile peace dialogue between Mahmoud Abbas’ government and Israel has passed in a new active phase. Official Tel Aviv has released significant number of the Palestinian fighters and Fatah’s insurgents have laid down arms.
Hamas has sharply condemned cooperation between Palestinian Autonomy and Israel, having named it “political degradation”. Hamas representatives have pointed out that it humiliates their people and ignores their national interests.
