On Saturday the national appellate court (NAC) of Spain has sentenced two members of ETA separatist grouping to 290 years of prison for the organization of act of terrorism in November, 2000, in result of which 16 employees of law enforcement bodies have suffered.
Later, the NAC’c representative has explained that two ETA’s members -Ibon Etxezarreta and Luis Maria Carrasco- are sentenced to long terms of imprisonment and to the penalty at a rate of 2,5 million euro for attempt to organize 16 murders and for the participation in the terrorist organization.
As he said, on November, 11th, 2000, the terrorists have established two self-made grenade cup discharges in 250 meters from a barracks of the Civil guards (gendarmerie), located in Inchaurrondo area in San Sebastian city: one of pomegranates, having flown by 40 meters, was broke off at highway, not having caused the harm, the second one has not been started up.
Then NAC’c representative has also added that the employees of law enforcement bodies, having come to the place of incident, have neutralized the second bomb; in the meantime, terrorists have blown up (by means of remote control) a bomb-trap, hidden (in advance) in the ground under grenade cup discharges therefore 16 employees have received wounds of a various degree of weight.
It was also added, that among victims there were 10 civil guardsmen, three employees of National police and three - of basks polices. The terrorists have been arrested on August, 22nd, 2001.
The Spanish courts often sentence criminals to the terms, exceeding duration of a human life, however, even life imprisonment by the Spanish legislation is not provided: formally condemned to life imprisonment people can not be in prison for more than 30 years.
But even this term usually decreases up to 20 years, considering repentance and good behavior of the prisoner.
