The power in Lebanon has passed to militaries
In connection with introduction in the country of the state of emergency declared some hours before the expiration of its presidential powers Lebanese President Emile Lahoud has ordered to give special powers to Lebanese military command.
According to Lahoud’s application, military command of the country has the right to place forces of safety in territory of Lebanon under own discretion and should transfer authority to the Lebanese government as soon as it will be recognized constitutional.
Thus Lahoud has declared the operating cabinet of Lebanon unconstitutional on the basis of which state of emergency has been declared without approval of the government. In reply to it representatives of the Lebanese cabinet have declared, that the decree of the president about introduction of state of emergency cannot be recognized legitimate as, according to the constitution of Lebanon, corresponding decision of the government is required.
Crisis of authority in Lebanon is proceeding for some months. For this time oppositional forces of the country have not managed to come to the compromise concerning the new president of the country, who should replace the retiring Lahoud. Today presidential elections in Lebanon have been once again postponed - this time - till November, 30th 2007.
- The authority in Lebanon has passed to military command
- Hezbollah gives the control over Beirut to army of Lebanon
- The United Nations and Lebanon have agreed about creation of the special tribunal on Hariri’s business
- Israeli agents have killed one of Hezbollah leaders
