Extremists have released Cornelio Chilel
Guatemalan extremists have released Cornelio Chilel, one of the most known drug traffickers of Central America.
About 30 armed people have attacked a minibus, in which the police transported the criminal. In result of firing two attacked have been killed and three policemen have wounded. After the attack policemen have been compelled to disappear in mountains as local residents consider Cornelio Chilel as the leader and want freedom for him. About 500 inhabitants from nearby villages have started to pursue police. Cornelio Chilel has been arrested in September 2006 in San Marcos. He is accused of murder of three policemen, and also contraband of drugs, people and weapon.
It is not far the time that such incidents occur in Guatemala. For example, in the beginning of 2006 criminals managed to steal 475 kilograms of cocaine, from a police warehouse, confiscated at drug traffickers because of a negligence of police. Thus warehouse safety service has appeared powerless against gangsters. Criminals have not been still arrested.
