Condoleeza Rice will meet the Iranian diplomats in Egypt
On May, 4th, 2007, the US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice does not exclude an opportunity of bilateral meetings with the Iranian diplomats during the international conference across Iraq in Egyptian Sharm El Sheikh.
The chapter of the American foreign policy department has informed, that in case of a similar meeting, they will call Iran to stop supporting the Iraq insurgents’ arms. Nevertheless, Condoleeza Rice has emphasized, that the dialogue with the Iranian diplomats will not be her basic purpose at the conference.
Rice has noted that it is the conference across Iraq and the participation of the various countries in settlement of a situation in Iraq will be discussed there.
Earlier the Supreme representative of the European Union (EU) on foreign policy and safety J.Solana has called the USA to carry on direct negotiations with Iran in occasion of the nuclear program. Thus Solana has expressed the confidence that Teheran is ready for such meetings.
However, today Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani has declared that Iran is not interested in such negotiations.
As it has already become known the heads of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the countries - constant members of EU Security Council, G8, Egypt, Iraq and the neighboring states, and also the representatives of the United Nations, League of the Arabian states and the Organization Islamic conference will take part in this conference.
